UTS Writer-In Residence

The Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund in partnership with the UTS Creative Writing Program is pleased to announce

the 2019 ‘New Writer’s $ 40,000 Fellowship’.

It is well known that for emerging writers completing that second or third book is extremely difficult given the financial pressures that writers face. From early March 2019 a new Australian writer will be selected nationally as UTS Writer-In Residence for 2019.

  • To qualify as 'new' the writer will have had one or two book-length works of fiction or non-fiction published with a commercial publisher since 2014.

  • The writer will be required to have a contract or letter of interest from a publisher for their second or third book.

  • The writer will be required to provide a one (1) page proposal on how the Copyright Agency-UTS New Writer's Residency would benefit their writing along with a CV (max 3 pages)

  • The writer will be required to be on campus two (2) days a week during semester to be available for consultation with Writing Students and to participate in other activities relating to the Creative Writing Program at the University of Technology Sydney.

  • This is a 3-year program and we will be appointing two more writers in 2020 and 2021. The successful writer(s) will be required to promote the position of Copyright Agency ‘New Writer-in- Residence’ and the UTS Writing program.
